A Face In The Crowd

#StopKony

Dear Everyone interested in Invisible Children or the Stop Kony movement,

Of the $8.9 million in donations they earned in 2011:

$1.7 million spent in US employee salaries

$357,000 in Film costs

$850,000 in Production costs

$751,000 in Computer equipment

$244,000 in “professional services” (DC lobbyists)

$1.07 million in travel expenses

$400,000 in yearly office rent in downtown San Diego

$16,000 in Entertainment

etc…

Only 2.8 million (31%) made it to their charity program, which is further whittled down by local Ugandan bureaucracy.

I am curious to find out what the children actually get?

My source is page 6 and 12 of their own financial report

Album Review: Careless World- Tyga

Do you remember when everyone was putting the lime in the cocunut and twisting it all up?

It was quite a while ago. Needless to say, rap has changed significantly since 2008. Tyga’s rap style has also changed significantly. He has gone from a party animal that also exhibited his sensual side with songs such as “Pillow Talking” to a hood phenomenon.

Tyga exhibits his Compton roots with songs such as “Faded” and “Rack City.”

There are several tracks on this album that I am very fond of. The problem lies in the fact that Tyga cannot continue his excellent delivery over the course of an entire album.

I am not saying the songs aren’t good. They just don’t stand out. That being said, Tyga delivers a solid performance. This album is a spectacular addition to any rap discography.

While listening to this album, I heard similarities to Drake and Lil’ Wayne. Tyga is able to vary his delivery depending on the accompanying beat. I am excited to see where his career goes.

I’ll give this album: 3.5/5

Thoughts on Greed

There are a lot of bad people in the world: those that are greedy, hateful, self-centered; although there are plenty of other adjectives to describe the filth that roams the earth.

However, if you look in another direction, you might be surprised to find that there a billions of hard working people that would much sooner give up a meal to help the needy than save up to help themselves. There are also those that would take advantage of this generosity.

While I am not sure which category I fall into, I have met plenty of hard-working Americans that have the southern hospitality that has become a characteristic of many people south of the Mason-Dixon line.

I want to thank those of you that give your precious time to volunteer or simply pray for those in need. I want to thank my father for teaching me that hard work is the most important lesson any man can learn. Although, I am not sure whether I have decided to implement that into my lifestyle yet. I want to thank both of my grandfathers and father for their years of military service.

In the wake of the 9/11 anniversary, it is important to thank those who we know give up their precious time to save lives every day. However, it is much more important to thank priests, members of the salvation army, an electrician and members of the fast food industry.

Shun corporate money hoarders, and thank the average man and woman for making the world a better place. After all, it is not the leaders of the world that make it go round, but the average person. They are the ones that tell leaders of the world what is and isn’t important.

We Can Always Print Money to Do That

“The United States can pay any debt it has because we can always print money to do that. So there is zero probability of default.” — Alan Greenspan, August 7, 2011

Is Mr Greenspan the greatest troll alive?  Following this quote, we can only hope that’s the case.

It’s certainly true that we could just print more and more and MORE money to pay offthe government’s $14 trillion+ debt.  Actually, we wouldn’t even need to physically print anything — we’d just add a few zeros to some balance sheets here and there and then set up a some wire transfers to our various lenders.  Voila!  Problem solved.  Remind me again why we had that whole debate last week?

The difficulty here — and presumably the reason why we haven’t taken advantage of this ostensibly simple solution already — is that this would cause massiveovernight inflation, probably collapse the dollar, and generally wreak havoc on the world’s economy.

See, whenever you just print huge quantities of money based on nothing, this results in devaluation, or inflation, of the unit of currency. The effect of the very policy Mr. Greenspan recommends may be clearly seen in the history of our money’s value over the course of the last 100 years of the Federal Reserve’s print-happy ways.  The dollar’s worth has declined to less than five cents of what it was at the beginning of the 20th Century.

Basically:  making more money out of thin air = less value per piece of money.
