Banksy just unveiled a brand new sculpture called Cardinal Sin which is a 18-century stone bust of a priest with its face sawn off and replaced by blank “pixelated” bathroom tiles. It was created as a response to the child abuse scandal in the Catholic church and its subsequent cover-up.
He remarked, “I guess you could call it a Christmas present. At this time of year it’s easy to forget the true meaning of Christianity - the lies, the corruption, the abuse.”

Random story time

So since I’m so busy on a saturday night doing important things. I’ll tell you a story about myself.

For lent in 2010, I gave up sodas. Idk how successful it was, I still drink every now and then. Well of course I drink, I am a college student. I meant I drink a soda every now and then, especially when I am drinking.

But anyway, I started drinking a lot more water. No reason behind it, I just needed to be healthy and stop drinking sodas.

And I still drink a shitload of water. Like literally I drank like 2 gallons of water today.

You might be feeling like I just wasted a minute of your life. Yea I did ;-p. To make up for it, here is an awesome mixtape by an LA area rapper called Wax. He is white though.

Download it here from his official website

Why People Care About Religion

Often in our lives we call on certain things only when in dire need. The best agnostic example I have is the health care system in the United States. I am sure there is data out there to back up a claim that says, “people only visit a doctor when sick and not regularly as a preventative measure.” Think about it. Do you go to the doctor for any other reason than to “fix“‘an illness?

The answer is undoubtedly no.

The same is true with religion. People go to church for Easter and Christmas. They go because these are the essential days that everyone goes, or thinks they need to go.

There are in fact many “days of obligation,” at least in the Catholic Faith —  the largest faith in the world behind Islam.

People just don’t care about God at all. The reason the majority of people give two shits about religion is the obvious selfish reason, they don’t want to end up in hell.

Is this a lecture about how you should live your life? No. Just an observation about how people currently live their life — Selfishly, only for the betterment of themselves.

But aside from all that, Do you really need to go to church to be a “good christian?”

{Insert sophisticated title about religion here}

By the time I have finished this post it will be well past 2:00 central time. Anyway on to the issue at hand.

Earlier tonight I was sitting in Broussard Hall at LSU working on a newspaper design project for a mass communication class. At 8:00 p.m. a group of christians came into the same room i was in to have a bible study session. I have no problem with them doing that. I figured it would be interesting to hear what they had to say.

Sure enough I was right. After listening to their conversations and readings, the main point I heard stressed over and over again was death: Jesus came down from heaven to die, we can only be saved by dying, etc. Needless to say, being a Catholic, I thought this was absolutely insane.

Stated several times in the bible is the fact that Jesus was put onto earth in order to save humans from original sin and enlighten us about god. Death just happened to be how he saved us from sin. The group was contradicting themselves. They would read a scripture about jesus coming to save us from sin and immediately state his purpose in living was only to die. Odd? I think so.

The second thing that absolutely was crazy was their idea that humans can only be saved by dying. This is true to an extent. However, there is so much more than that. Going to church everyday and dying after never missing a day of church won’t “save” you. What you believe is what is truly important.

Death is simply just a fact of life that is the finale to one chapter. There is so much more than simply dying and being “good” in the eyes of god. Oversimplification to the MAXXXXX!

Anyway thats my rant. Obviously most of this is based on opinion and what i have been taught throughout my life, I don’t have time or willpower to quote scripture and back up my argument. It’s late, I’m tired, time to study.

Also, I have a good friend that scoffs at people who are religious. Honestly, thats his right to think whatever he wants. It embarrassed me the way he looked at the bible study group. WTF man, they are just talking about shit that they think matters to them. I am not one to judge, I fuck up a lot. But come on man, isn’t there more to life than weed, money and sex. When he is old, will he change his mind? thats for him to decide.

anyways, thoughts on the matter?

How religion changed over time

im posting this link right now and at some point when i have time i am gonna watch this but for now im just putting it here to keep it somewhere and also to share this documentary with those who find things that challenge your beliefs interesting.

www.documentary24.com/the-story-of-god-how-religion-and-faith-changed-over-time—188/

In my opinion we cannot be truly knowledgeable without learning and listening to things that are antagonistic toward our beliefs. walk away from things and come up with your own opinio

Maturity

Immediately after i graduated from high school i felt a change in myself. It wasn’t some incredible change like i was optimus prime or some kind of transformer. My opinion on things immediately changed. I don’t know why but i always think of people still in high school as inferior in one way or another. I also feel  quite a bit more responsiblity. As soon as i entered college i had to be more grown up.

I have had to abandon doing things i once did frequently in order to accomplish things that may or may not be more important. I make excuses for not being more involved with my religion, but there is none.

At the beginning of the year i was super involved with the Catholic youth ministries. However, I  now am much more concerned with the Ultimate Frisbee team. I have not been to church in entirely too long.

That doesn’t make me any less of a person in my opinion though. I have always been on the border about religious things in terms of what i believe. There is no doubt i am a Catholic. However, i often find myself contemplating my ideals.

College is a time to find out who you are, and that is exactly what i am trying to do currently.
